John Whitmire announced today that the Texas Humane Legislation Network has endorsed him in his campaign for mayor of the City of Houston.
“We proudly announce the Texas Humane Legislation Network’s endorsement of Senator Whitmire for Houston mayor!
“Since he came to Austin, Senator Whitmire has sponsored, authored, and supported a majority of our animal-friendly legislation! He has a 100% humane voting record and continues to be one of our biggest allies in the fight for animal welfare in the Texas Capitol.
“Senator Whitmire has proven time and again to be a tireless animal welfare advocate as he has authored the original animal cruelty law in Texas, the Texas Licensed Breeders Program law and the canine encounter law, and the list goes on. He has sponsored, authored, and supported over 30 of THLN’s priority bills and has earned a 100% humane scorecard. Senator Whitmire continues to be one of our biggest allies in the fight for animal welfare in the Texas Capitol, and we offer him our support in the mayoral race.
“THLN’s robust network of thousands of Houston voters knows he will positively change the trajectory of animal welfare policies in Houston for decades to come.”
Whitmire has represented Senate District 15 in the Texas Senate for the past 40 years, after serving ten years in the Texas House. He knows Houston is a great city, where its diverse population comes together to tackle tough issues. Whitmire wants to see the city reach its full potential by taking on the tough issues facing our city. Those issues include public safety, illegal dumping, homelessness, flooding and drainage, street and water system repair and neighborhood traffic safety. He also wants to boost the morale of police and firefighters and let them know that Houston has their backs.
