On Tuesday, December 27, 2022, President Biden signed into law Congressman Green’s bill H.R. 5865 to designate a U.S. post office in Stafford, TX after the late Mayor Leonard Scarcella. Congressman Green released the following statement:

“For the entirety of his tenure, Mayor Leonard Scarcella was a most loyal stalwart to the residents of Stafford, generating great positive change during his many decades in office. A trailblazer, Mayor Scarcella was keenly aware of the needs of the people and worked tirelessly to address them,” Congressman Al Green indicated. “It has been an honor to work on legislation naming a federal building after him and see it enacted. I thank Senators Cornyn and Cruz as well as the entire Texas Congressional Delegation for working with me on this bill, and I look forward to hosting a renaming ceremony in the near future.”

“Leonard Scarcella dedicated more than half a century to serving the city of Stafford, and his time in office helped his hometown grow in countless ways,” said Sen. Cornyn. “I’m grateful to my colleagues for joining me in honoring Mayor Scarcella’s tireless service to the community he loved.”

Senator Cruz concluded, “Former Stafford Mayor Leonard Scarcella dedicated his life to service. From defending our country in the Armed Forces to becoming one of the longest serving mayors in the history of the Lone Star State – with a notable tenure that included eliminating city property taxes in Stafford – Scarcella’s legacy is one to be remembered. I am proud to join my Texan colleagues in honoring Mayor Scarcella’s contribution to our great state.”
