New year, new apartment! As rentals are a red-hot commodity and many apartment buildings across the U.S. are almost fully occupied, renters have a better chance of finding a new place to call home in newly built rental communities.

But where should they look for freshly built apartments? In Texas! According to RentCafe’s latest report, the Lone Star State is home to 12 of the top 50 best places to find a new apartment, with Houston snatching the 35th spot nationwide. More so, four of Houston’s suburbs secured a place in our chart, offering renters many spacious new apartments in coveted areas.

Here are the highlights:

• Between 2012 and 2021, the number of new apartments in Houston increased by a mere 20%. Around 71,500 new rentals hit the market during this timeframe, and almost 64% are in coveted areas.

• New apartments in Houston offer a generous amount of living space — 929 sq. ft. With occupancy rates close to 90%, renters craving that new apartment vibe have a great chance to find one in Houston.

• For those who want to live outside of the big city, Humble is the 3rd best place in the country for renting new apartments. Between 2012 and 2021, the number of new units increased by 45.2% and 78% of them are in coveted areas.

• Spring, Katy and Conroe follow behind, securing a spot among the county’s top 50 best cities to rent new apartments. These suburbs offer spacious new apartments, most of which are in popular areas of the cities.

To determine the top 50 best cities to rent a new apartment, we analyzed the number of new rentals opened in the last ten years, the quality of their neighborhood, the average living space and occupancy rates.
