The city of Kendleton, along with Fort Bend County Judge KP George, Lucille’s 1913 Foundation, and Fort Bend Heritage Unlimited is pleased to announce its highly anticipated annual Juneteenth Celebration, scheduled to take place on June 19, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., at Bates Allen Park, 630 Charlie Roberts Lane, Kendleton, TX 77451. The event promises to be a day filled with live entertainment, vendors, historical displays, and a celebration of unity.

The Juneteenth Celebration serves as a commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It is a time to reflect on the struggles faced by African Americans throughout history and celebrate their resilience and contributions to society.

During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy live entertainment, featuring performances by local artists and musicians. Additionally, there will be a variety of vendors offering a wide array of goods, including arts and crafts, local cuisine, and other products.

From 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Lucille's 1913, a non-profit organization dedicated to community engagement and sustainable food initiatives will mark the occasion by leading the year's first produce harvest at its community farm, stationed at Bates Allen Park. Volunteers from the community are invited to join the harvesting and processing efforts. The freshly picked produce will be utilized to create harvest sides, which will accompany the local cuisine served at Kendleton's Juneteenth Celebration.

Lucille’s 1913’s founder, Chef Chris Williams, a James Beard nominated chef known for his culinary expertise and dedication to community initiatives, will lead the harvesting event. Chef Williams will be joined by the non-profit's culinary directors, Lawrence Walker and Ruben Vela, as well as 1913 Horticultural Director Jeremy Peaches, who oversees the farm's horticultural operations.

The Kendleton Juneteenth Celebration aims to foster unity and inclusivity, bringing together community members of all backgrounds. This is a family-friendly event, free and open to the public.
