As the Texas State Chamber, the Texas Association of Business applauds Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) on Texas House priorities related to economic and workforce development:

House Bill 5 (The Texas Jobs and Security Act) by Chairman Todd Hunter (R-Corpus Christi) creates a new, modernized economic development program, the business community’s number one priority. “This bill reinforces Texas’ position as an economic powerhouse,” said TAB CEO Glenn Hamer. “Texas has been a national leader in securing large capital-intensive investments, and with the Texas Jobs and Security Act, we will continue beating out our competitors and winning jobs for Texas communities.”

The Texas State Chamber is one of over 200 organizations advocating for a new modernized economic development program to help Texas communities compete for large capital-intensive investments. The coalition includes over 80 chambers of commerce and more than 120 economic development councils and trade associations. House Bill 8 by Representative Gary VanDeaver (R-New Boston) established a new funding model for community colleges. “Community colleges are uniquely positioned to quickly address high-demand workforce needs, and incentivizing outcomes will ensure Texas is able to shore up the Texas workforce,” said TAB EVP Stephanie Matthews.

House Bill 19 by Representative Andrew Murr (R-Junction) creates a business court system. “The Texas State Chamber is committed to protecting Texas’ reputation as the model for lawsuit reform,” said TAB SVP of Policy & Advocacy Megan Mauro. “HB 19 eases pressure on overcrowded state court systems.”
