Houston Independent School District students will have the opportunity to join several schools and communities around the globe to celebrate the importance of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) on the fourth annual International SEL Day. This day was created to showcase, promote, advocate and support SEL in every school and community across the world. SEL helps build a foundation that supports students’ success both personally and academically and equips them with social-emotional skills, so they are better able to learn and contribute to a positive learning environment. This year’s theme is titled Uplifting Hearts, Connecting Minds.
HISD’s SEL department will recognize this day with dedicated activities throughout our campuses. The day will be highlighted with a SEL Summit at Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy and will include a panel discussion with students and district leadership surrounding the importance of SEL.
HISD District Leadership, Interim Director of Social-Emotional Learning Sean Ricks and Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy Principal Dr. Tabitha S. Davis, HISD students and staff will gather on Friday, Mar. 10 at 10:00 a.m. at the Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy, 1906 Cleburne St., 77004.
