On Wednesday, May 10, Fort Bend County Judge KP George and the Ibn Sina Foundation hosted the County’s Eid al-Fitr Celebration. The event was a huge success, with attendees from various cultural backgrounds coming together to enjoy food, music, and artwork by local artist Hina Chaudhry.

The Eid Gala was a celebration of the end of Ramadan, a holy month of fasting and prayer observed by Muslims around the world. However, it was more than just a celebration of one particular faith, it was a celebration of the diversity that makes Fort Bend such a vibrant and welcoming county.

Judge George emphasized the importance of celebrating diversity and working together to improve community outcomes.

"We believe that it is important to recognize and celebrate the different cultures that make up our community," said Judge KP George "By coming together and learning from each other, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all."

The keynote speaker for the evening, Regional Director for the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Sima Ladjevardian, shared how her experience as an immigrant child growing up in the US helped her gain an appreciation for justice, freedom, and democracy. Appointed as Regional Director by President Joe Biden, Ladjevardian ensures the Department maintains close contact with state, local, and tribal partners and addresses the needs of communities and individuals served through HHS programs and policies.

Cohost for the evening Nasruddin Rupani, a global philanthropist and chairman of the Ibn Sina Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, which provides high-quality medical care at affordable prices to underserved and underprivileged populations in Houston announced plans to open a medical school in the greater Houston area. He stressed his passion for community service and humanitarian values.

"We all have a role to play in making our community a better place," said Rupani.

The Eid Gala was a reminder that, despite our differences, we are all part of the same community. By celebrating diversity and working together, we can create a stronger, more inclusive society that benefits everyone.
