DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNC Hispanic Caucus Chair Iris Martinez released the following statement marking Hispanic Heritage Month:
“This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the diversity of the Hispanic and Latino communities and honor the countless contributions that they have made throughout the history of our nation. As a country built by immigrants, we cherish the activism and sacrifices that Latinos have made to ensure that our country lives up to its ideals of freedom, liberty, and equality for all. From fighting for a more just immigration system to marching for workers’ rights, Latinos have made this country a better nation for all Americans.
“We also acknowledge that Latinos are one of the most powerful forces in our democracy, who came together to help elect President Biden and Vice President Harris in 2020. Because of their efforts, President Biden and Democrats have been able to deliver historic progress for the Latino community, including near historic low unemployment for Latinos, better access to affordable health care, a historic number of Latino judges appointed to the judiciary, and so much more. While MAGA Republicans fight for tax giveaways for the rich, higher health care costs, and cruel immigration policies, Democrats remain focused on the issues that matter most to Latinos.
“We will continue fighting to make sure that the voices of all Hispanic and Latino Americans are heard, valued, and uplifted in our party and our nation. Together, we will continue delivering results for the Hispanic community and work toward building a more inclusive nation.”
