NNPA and USBC Commend FCC for Empowering Black-Owned FM Broadcasters Through Geotargeting

(Houston, TX) – The National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), representing the Black Press of America and 250 Black-owned media companies nationwide, proudly stands with the U.S. Black Chamber of Commerce (USBC) in expressing gratitude to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for advancing the authorization process for FM Broadcasters' geotargeting.

Ron Busby, President, and CEO of USBC, emphasized the significance of this move, especially for small and medium-sized broadcasters, many of whom are African American. "This is a needed boost for the broadcasting industry," stated Busby.

Bobby R. Henry, Sr., Chairman of the NNPA, voiced support for the FCC's progress in enabling Black-owned and minority-owned FM broadcasters to leverage geotargeting. "We acknowledge and support the FCC’s progress on this important initiative," said Henry.

Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr., President, and CEO of NNPA highlighted the exemplary leadership of FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, along with FCC Commissioners Geoffrey Starks and Brendan Carr. "Their support for this consequential rule change will undoubtedly benefit minority-owned businesses, allowing them to harness the advantages of FM geotargeting," noted Dr. Chavis.

The NNPA underscored the bipartisan support for the proposed FCC rule change, emphasizing its positive alignment with the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to inclusion and diversity. Dr. Chavis concluded, "This bipartisan effort by the FCC bodes well for the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to inclusion and diversity."
