Displayed in HMH’s Josef and Edith Mincberg Gallery, The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection, sponsored by Shell USA, pays tribute to the accomplishments and contributions of Black Americans from 1595 to the present. Recognized as one of the most comprehensive surveys of African American history and culture outside the Smithsonian Institution, The Kinsey Collection showcases over 100 treasures accumulated by Shirley and Bernard Kinsey over their five-decade marriage. This collection encompasses masterful paintings and sculptures, photographs, rare books, letters, manuscripts, and more, offering a comprehensive perspective on the African American experience and providing fresh insights into the nation's history and culture.

At 2 p.m. in the Albert and Ethel Herzstein Theater, Shirley and Bernard Kinsey will discuss how their exhibition dispels the Myth of Absence – challenging the notion that contributions by African Americans in industry, art, science, and politics have been overlooked in history books. Gain insights into how the Kinseys utilize their exhibit to highlight the full and rich contributions of African Americans to the development and shaping of the United States. Further details and RSVP information can be found at hmh.org/Myth.
