The officially licensed Sam Houston Bearkats Bobblehead was unveiled today in conjunction with National Bobblehead Day, which is celebrated annually on January 7th. mascot, Sammy Bearkat. The special edition bobblehead featuring the university mascot, Sammy Bearkat, is being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum.

"We’re excited to be releasing this Sam Houston Bobblehead in conjunction with National Bobblehead Day,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “Bobbleheads are the ultimate way to show off your school pride, and we think this is the perfect bobblehead for Sam Houston alumni, students, faculty, staff, and fans to show off their school spirit.”

Each bobblehead is individually numbered to only 2,023. Standing on a base that reads “Bearkats” across the front with a backing featuring the Sam Houston State logo, the Sammy bobblehead has his paws raised in a friendly manner while wearing a white football uniform with an orange No. 79 on the jersey.

Initially nicknamed the Normals, Sam Houston State later became the Bearkats. In the 1940s, an attempt was made to change the nickname to the Ravens, but the Bearkats prevailed after an alumni vote. Sammy made his debut in December 1959. The current Sammy Bearkat was unveiled on January 30th, 1997, at halftime of a basketball game.

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, which is located at 170 S. 1st. St. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, opened to the public on February 1st, 2019. The HOF and Museum also produces high quality, customized bobbleheads for retail sale as well as organizations, individuals, and teams across the country.

The bobbleheads are $35 each plus an $8 flat-rate shipping charge per order.
