Houston-Galveston Area Council Elects 2024 Board Officers, Emphasizes Regional Collaboration

The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) has announced the election of new officers for its 2024 board of directors during its annual State of the Region event and Assembly Meeting on Friday, January 19, 2024. Councilmember Sally Alcorn will serve as the board chair, presiding over monthly meetings to address regional challenges. Mayor Joe Garcia of Pattison, Texas, is the vice-chair, and Judge Jay Knight of Liberty County is the chair-elect.

Alcorn expressed her commitment to collaboration for the benefit of the 13-county region, encompassing urban and suburban communities. The outgoing Board Chair, Trey Duhon, Waller County judge, was recognized, and H-GAC released its annual report and unveiled a new website.

The H-GAC board comprises 37 elected officials representing 13 counties, 111 cities, and 11 school districts. It leads collaborative efforts on various programs, including transportation planning, 9-1-1 services, workforce development, aging and disability resources, and disaster recovery.
