TDECU Names Michael Williams Market President, Announces Leadership Changes

TDECU has named Michael Williams as its new Market President, bringing decades of banking and leadership experience to the role at a key moment in the credit union’s growth trajectory.
Williams began his banking career at Texas Commerce Bank in 1992 and most recently served as Executive Vice President and Senior Sales Manager of Commercial Lending at Frost Bank. Over the years, he has built an extensive background in mergers and acquisitions, syndications, and corporate and industrial lending. His expertise in these complex areas has provided him with a strong grasp of risk management and a nuanced understanding of the competitive dynamics shaping the Houston banking market.
With a deep commitment to serving the financial needs of the community, Williams expressed enthusiasm about joining TDECU, where he plans to leverage his experience to benefit Members. He highlighted the meaningful impact a credit union can have on its Members and expressed a strong desire to contribute to that mission.
TDECU President and CEO Isaac Johnson underscored Williams’ alignment with the organization’s long-term vision, noting his capacity to build lasting client relationships and lead top-performing teams in highly specialized sectors of finance. Johnson pointed to Williams’ dedication to enhancing the Member experience as a key asset in driving the credit union’s next phase of growth.
A University of Houston graduate, Williams has also demonstrated a longstanding commitment to community service. He currently serves on the Texas Southern University Foundation, the City of Houston TIRZ #7 board, and Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Additionally, he is the Board Chair of Hope for Families, a nonprofit organization focused on strengthening families through community-centered initiatives.
In related leadership news, TDECU also announced the promotion of Laura Whitley, former Market President, to Senior Vice President of Marketing. Whitley reflected on her time representing TDECU in the community and shared her excitement for developing strategies that will enhance Member engagement and elevate the credit union’s brand presence.
