A sleepy island with no Wi-Fi, a mayor desperate for respect, and a curse that refuses to stay buried, Widow’s Bay brings viewers into a world where eerie folklore collides with sharp, character-driven comedy in Apple TV’s latest original series.
Blending genuine horror with offbeat humor, Widow’s Bay centers on Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Matthew Rhys, a well-meaning but timid leader trying to breathe life back into his struggling coastal town. With spotty cell service and a population that clings tightly to superstition, Loftis faces an uphill battle convincing locals, and himself, that the island has a future beyond its haunted past.
That future seems within reach when tourists finally begin arriving, offering a glimmer of economic revival. But as visitors pour in, so do the island’s long-dormant legends. What once sounded like far-fetched folklore begins to feel all too real, forcing Loftis to confront the possibility that the town’s curse is not just a story, it is a warning.
The series features a standout ensemble cast, including Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey, with supporting performances from K Callan and Emmy Award winner Jeff Hiller. Together, they bring to life a community that is equal parts quirky, skeptical, and deeply connected to the island’s mysterious history.
Created, showrun, and executive produced by Katie Dippold, Widow’s Bay comes from Apple Studios and features a strong creative team behind the camera. Hiro Murai serves as executive producer and directs five episodes this season under his Chum Films banner. Additional directors include Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung.
The series adds to Apple TV’s growing slate of acclaimed original programming. Since launching in 2019, the platform has built a reputation for award-winning content across genres, from beloved comedies like Ted Lasso to global hits like Severance and Oscar-winning films such as CODA.
With its mix of small-town charm, creeping dread, and unexpected laughs, Widow’s Bay invites viewers to visit a place where the past is never truly buried and where even the most reluctant leader may have to face what lies beneath the surface.
