The Fort Bend County Deputy Sheriff’s Association is hosting a BBQ fundraiser in honor of Deputy Kenneth Lewis, with all proceeds benefiting his family.
Authorities say Lewis was driving home from an extra job around 3 a.m. on February 21 when he encountered two stranded motorists along the Katy Freeway near Eldridge. He stopped to assist so the individuals would not be harmed on the roadway.
While helping, Lewis was struck by a vehicle. Police reported that the driver did not stop. He was in his personal vehicle at the time of the incident. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he died two days later.
The fundraiser will take place on April 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Gus George Academy. Plates are $15 and include a chopped beef brisket sandwich, chips, and a drink.
Community members are encouraged to attend and help spread the word as support continues for Lewis’ family.
