September is shaping up to be a seriously fun month at Miller Outdoor Theatre, where Houston audiences can travel the world without leaving Hermann Park.

As part of its 2026 season presented by H-E-B, Miller is bringing together an eclectic mix of music, dance and cultural performances, with a lineup that moves from Japanese pop and New Orleans jazz to mariachi, Latin jazz, classical music and opera. And, as always, Miller’s outdoor performances are free to the public. 

Puffy AmiYumi

 

One of the month’s most anticipated events is Puffy AmiYumi – Hi Hi Houston!, presented by Japan America Society Houston. The performance celebrates 30 years of PUFFY AmiYumi, the beloved Japanese musical duo known for its catchy combination of J-pop and rock, as well as the animated series Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi.

The anniversary celebration promises a festive, nostalgic experience featuring fan favorites, beloved classics and plenty of surprises. For longtime fans, it is a chance to relive the music that made PUFFY a pop-culture favorite. For newcomers, it is an invitation to join the party.

September also brings an impressive lineup of jazz. The Houston Jazz Festival, produced by Houston Jazz Collective, will spotlight the musical traditions of New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. The NOLA Resistance Quintet will carry forward that rich tradition, with musicians whose careers include performances alongside some of jazz and New Orleans music’s most celebrated artists.

The evening will also incorporate the work of acclaimed Texas visual artist John Alexander, a Beaumont native whose art has been exhibited in major collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Miller’s September programming also celebrates the richness of Hispanic and Latin American culture.

The venue launches its Hispanic Heritage Month celebration with El Grito at Miller Featuring Mariachi Herencia de México, featuring the traditional Grito ceremony followed by music from the two-time Latin Grammy-nominated ensemble. The performance will honor the legacy of Mexican music icon Juan Gabriel.

The celebration continues with Noche Caliente featuring Pete Escovedo, produced by Diaz Music Institute. The evening brings together Latin jazz and Afro-Caribbean music with performances by the Houston Latin Jazz Orchestra and youth ensemble Caliente.

September’s Hispanic Heritage programming concludes with the 44th Annual Día de la Hispanidad: Alma Latina – A Celebration of Latin Music, co-produced by the Institute for Hispanic Culture Houston. The celebration highlights Latin American traditions through music and dance.

And there is plenty more on the September calendar, including Sounds and Stories from Space City from WindSync, Baroque to Boleros from Mercury Chamber Orchestra, ¡Viva La Brass! from Houston Brass Quintet, Mỹ Anh in Concert from Asia Society, Music-Stories-OPERA! from Houston Grand Opera and Eyes on the Horizon from River Oaks Chamber Orchestra.

In true Houston fashion, Miller’s September lineup is a reminder that the city’s cultural scene is anything but one-note. Whether the goal is discovering a new artist, celebrating familiar traditions or simply enjoying an evening under the stars, Miller Outdoor Theatre offers plenty of reasons to make a visit.

And with free performances at one of Houston’s most beloved outdoor venues, September may be the perfect time to pack a blanket, gather some friends and make a night of it.
