A political action committee supporting State Rep. James Talarico in the Texas Democratic U.S. Senate primary has launched a paid campaign that criticizes Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who is competing against Talarico for the Democratic nomination. The outside group Lone Star Rising PAC, which backs Talarico’s campaign, has launched the ad, targeting Democratic voters ahead of the March 3 primary.
The digital ad reportedly frames Crockett as a less viable choice in a potential general election and underscores the competitive nature of the primary race.
In response, Congresswoman Crockett’s campaign criticized the ad and highlighted what they called contradictions in Talarico’s messaging. The campaign noted that while Talarico released one ad promoting banning Super PACs and taxing millionaires, his Super PAC is funded by wealthy donors and is running an attack ad against Crockett. The statement called the ad a “hypocrisy…on par with the Republican playbook” and said Crockett has faced attacks both from within her party and from Republicans, but is “used to this” and “fighting the system her entire life.”
The Crockett campaign also disputed claims in the ad that she is “backed by Republicans,” saying that Talarico has received large donations from the same mega-donor who supports former President Trump, while his Super PAC is preparing to spend over $4 million in the primary. The campaign described Crockett as “Texas Tough” and emphasized her record of leadership and advocacy.
