Christian Menefee, Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas's 18th district

Texas Congressman Christian Menefee, representing the 18th Congressional District, has been appointed to the House Democrats’ Litigation Task Force. Menefee, a former Harris County Attorney, brings extensive courtroom experience and a record of challenging government overreach at both the state and federal levels.

During his tenure as Harris County Attorney, Menefee successfully litigated cases to protect local healthcare funding and challenged state officials when their actions violated the Texas Constitution or state law. He has handled complex legal disputes involving public resources, civil rights, and government accountability, earning recognition for taking on high-stakes cases in defense of community interests.

The House Democrats’ Litigation Task Force, established by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries in February 2025, is charged with coordinating responses to legal challenges involving federal policies, ensuring compliance with constitutional and statutory requirements, and defending the rights of communities nationwide. Menefee will serve alongside the task force’s Chair, Assistant Democratic Leader Joe Neguse, and Co-Chairs Representatives Rosa DeLauro, Robert Garcia, and Jamie Raskin.

As a member of the task force, Menefee is expected to leverage his extensive legal experience to address executive overreach, protect civil rights, and support legislation that promotes government accountability. His priorities include defending access to healthcare, safeguarding voting rights, combating discriminatory policies, and promoting environmental protections.

This appointment marks Menefee’s first congressional role following his swearing-in, positioning him as an emerging voice on legal and civil rights issues within the House of Representatives.
