Representative Jasmine Crockett Announces Senate Run

The Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate in Texas has become one of the most closely watched statewide races in years as Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett ramps up her campaign with a platform focused on affordability and accountability and draws national attention and endorsements ahead of the March 3 primary.

Crockett, a vocal critic of both national and state Republican leadership, launched her Senate bid in December, positioning herself as a fighter for working families and asserting that Texas deserves a senator who will represent all 30 million Texans rather than defer to party lines or presidential influence. Her campaign emphasizes the everyday economic challenges facing Texans, including rising costs for groceries, gas, housing and health care, and pledges to pursue legislative solutions that aim to ease financial burdens without relying on subsidies.

Crockett has also been endorsed by Elect Democratic Women (EDW), a congressional member–led committee dedicated to helping Democratic women win seats in Congress. EDW’s support signals broader national backing and reinforces her messaging on fairness and accountability in government. EDW leaders praised Crockett’s advocacy for working families, small businesses, farmers and farmworkers, and her promise to serve as a strong and independent voice in the Senate.

In addition to focusing on cost-of-living issues, Crockett is campaigning on expanding opportunity statewide, protecting civil rights and holding government accountable. Her background as a civil rights and criminal defense attorney, former state representative and current U.S. congresswoman has shaped her narrative as a candidate ready to challenge entrenched power structures in Washington.

The Texas Senate primary has drawn sharp contrasts between Crockett and her Democratic rival, state Rep. James Talarico, as well as an increasingly crowded Republican field seeking to retain control of the seat currently held by GOP Sen. John Cornyn. Crockett’s energetic campaign style and frequent use of social media have made her one of the most visible figures in the race, with supporters and critics alike engaging with her message online.

As the March primary approaches, Crockett’s campaign continues its statewide outreach, including recent stops in Houston and San Antonio, where she underscored her belief that Texans deserve leadership that tackles affordability and stands up for them at the federal level.

The outcome of this primary will shape not only the Democratic ticket in a state that has not elected a Democratic senator in more than three decades but also broader conversations about the direction of the party and its appeal to diverse voters across Texas and beyond.
