The community is invited to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through service at the annual “We Are One” MLK Day of Service, a community donation drive hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Omicron Tau Omega Chapter.
The event will take place on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Bammel Middle School, located at 16711 Ella Blvd., Houston, TX 77090. The drive-through, drop-off event is open to the public and is designed to make giving easy and accessible for individuals, families, and organizations.
Presented in partnership with Spring Independent School District and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Theta Sigma Chapter, the MLK Day of Service aligns with the national observance of MLK Day as “a day on, not a day off,” encouraging hands-on community engagement and unity through action.
Donations collected will benefit two local nonprofit organizations serving vulnerable populations in the greater Houston area:
- Healing Hearts with Helping Hands, Inc., which supports young mothers ages 13 to 26 with essential baby items, life-skills training, and career development resources.
- Hearts of Rescue, an organization that assists individuals experiencing homelessness by providing mobile showers, clean clothing, hygiene kits, and spiritual care.
Community members are encouraged to donate diapers (newborn to size 3), baby wipes, backpacks, and sleeping bags. All donated items will be distributed directly to the organizations to support their ongoing outreach efforts.
Through this annual initiative, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Omicron Tau Omega Chapter and its partners continue their commitment to service, unity, and uplifting the community while honoring Dr. King’s enduring call to serve others.
