Houston's philanthropic community will gather on Wednesday, Aug. 5, as The Bayou Collective hosts State of Black Philanthropy: Houston Edition, an evening dedicated to celebrating the legacy, impact, and future of Black philanthropy in the region.
The event will take place at the historic Deluxe Theater and will bring together philanthropists, nonprofit leaders, corporate partners, and community members for discussions focused on community investment, collective giving, and the continued growth of Black-led philanthropy.
Held under the theme, "Where Giving Flows Together For Greater Impact," the gathering comes as The Bayou Collective continues expanding its mission of supporting Black-led nonprofits and community organizations throughout the Houston area.
Founded as a Houston-based philanthropic giving circle, The Bayou Collective recently launched its inaugural grant cycle, providing support to organizations working in cultural arts, financial literacy, women's health, workforce development, and youth development. Organizers say the August event will highlight the people, organizations, and traditions that have shaped Black philanthropy while encouraging broader community participation in future giving.
The program will feature a panel discussion examining the current state of Black philanthropy in Houston and beyond. Panelists include Houston City Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas, who also serves as an associate professor at Prairie View A&M University; Niiobli Armah IV, founder and CEO of We Collab; Lyndsie A. Whitehead, Ph.D., associate director of philanthropy at Rice University; and LaTanya Flix, founder of Black Philanthropy Houston.
Attendees will also have opportunities to network with leaders from Houston's philanthropic, nonprofit, and corporate sectors while learning more about efforts to strengthen community investment and expand resources for Black-led organizations.
The event is presented in partnership with Black Impact Houston, Black Philanthropy Houston, and the Greater Houston Black Chamber, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing Black-led giving and creating sustainable opportunities for communities across the city.
