Photography by Sametra Samuel - On July 4-8, 2013, Houston Style Magazine was on hand in New Orleans, LA for the party with a purpose at the 2013 Essence Festival. The 2013 ESSENCE Festival, the 19th annual gathering of music, culture, community, empowerment and inspiration, did not disappoint. It was the most exhilarating cultural celebration of the year; featuring a mix of bold names, exciting newcomers and cherished ESSENCE Festival favorites. The biggest artists and best performers were Beyonce, Maxwell, New Edition, Charlie Wilson, Brandy, Jill Scott, LL Cool J, Keyshia Cole, Trey Songz, Janelle Monae and TGT (Supergroup Tyrese, Ginuwine, Tank). Solange made her first ever main stage performance. Thank you to General Motors and Chevrolet for making Houston Style Magazine’s Essence Festival experience stellar.
