Photography by South Central Communications - On March 21-24, 2013, Houston Style Magazine was on hand in New Orleans, LA for the 81st South Central Regional Conference for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA) It was the first conference for South Central Regional Director Chelle Luper Wilson, who was installed at the sorority most recent national convention last summer. Over 3,400 members of AKA from the states of Arkansas, New Mexico, Louisiana and Texas gathered for a weekend that handled the business of AKA, while proving service, and strengthening the bonds of sisterhood. During the course of the conference, the ladies collected over 39,000 school supplies that were donated to students in Louisiana. Money was also raised for various endowments so that scholarships can continue to be distributed to deserving students. International President Carolyn House Stewart and other members of the International Leadership were in attendance.
