On Friday, September 20, 2013, Houston Style Magazine was on in Washington, DC for the Fifth Annual Evening of Excellence hosted by Essence and Southern Company in conjunction with the Congressional Black Caucus. The event paid tribute to Architects of Change and Trailblazers with a Focus on Armed Services and Entrepreneurship. Bell Biv Devoe and Avery Sunshine gave stellar entertainment performances. The 2013 honorees were Sherri Shepherd, Sophia Marnell, Dr. Jesse J. Lewis, Sr., and Major General Nadja West. Some in attendance were Michelle Banks, Vanessa K. Bush, Christopher C. Womack, Bentina Terry, Ryan Cameron and DJ Baby Yu.
