Photography by Roswitha Vogler - On Friday, September 20, 2013, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at Energized for STEM Academy as Comcast kicked off the year three of Internet Essentials, the nation’s largest broadband adoption program designed to help close the digital divide. A series of national and local Internet Essentials milestones was announced, including the total number of families enrolled to date and 2013 program enhancements. Comcast also announced a partnership to open four new computer labs for students at the southeast and southwest campuses of Energized for STEM Academy. More than 400 students are expected to participate in digital literacy workshops including “Staying Safe on the Internet” and “Effective use of Social Media.” Some in attendance were Vice President for Comcast Houston Ray Purser, Senior Vice President for Comcast Houston Ralph Martinez, Strategic Operations Comcast Corporation Filemon Lopez, Founder and Head of Schools Energized for STEM Academy Lois Bullock, Houston ISD Board Trustee Paula Harris, Houston City Council Member Ellen Cohen, and Texas State Representatives Jessica Farrar and Sylvester Turner.
