Photography by Vicky Pink - On Saturday, September 14, 2013, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at Tom Bass Park for UNCF’s Walk for Education. The event is a celebration of education that will bring together an estimated 1,500 community supporters to raise vitally needed funds to help students get to and through college. This year’s walk was expected to raise $400,000, which will support students in Houston and Texas. . Participants were able to walk, run, or bike a 5k course through Section I of Tom Bass Park. Co-chairs for the Houston UNCF Walk for Education are the honorable Mayor Annise Parker, and Gene Locke, Partner at Andrews Kurth LLP. UNCF awards 10,000 scholarships a year through 400 scholarships and other programs to students at 900 colleges and universities, including UNCF’s 38 member institutions.
