Photography by Vicky Pink On Friday, September 19, 2014, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at Texas Southern University for the 6th Annual National Gospel Music Heritage Celebration “The Evolution of Gospel.” In commemoration of “Gospel Music Heritage Month,” Grammy Award winner Dionne Warwick and a stellar group of nationally renowned and local gospel artists were featured in a concert. In 2008, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) led the passing of a resolution in both chambers declaring September as Gospel Music Heritage Month. Some in attendance were Al Edwards, State Rep. Sylvester Turner, Carl Davis, Erica Lee Carter, V. Michael McKay, and Rev. Marcus D. Cosby.
