Photography By Vicky Pink On September 19-20, 2014, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at the wake and funeral for legendary jazz musician Joe Sample. A public viewing was held for Sample at Our Mother of Mercy Church for who loved the man and his music. The next day the Sample family held a private ceremony to say their final good-byes to Sample. In lieu of flowers, etc., the family asked for all donations to be made to the Joe Sample Youth Organization, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit. Some in attendance celebrating the life of Joe Sample were his wife, Yolanda; son, Nicklas; 3 stepsons; 6 grandchildren; 1 sister; Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee; State Rep. Harold Dutton; and a host of others.
