Photography by Vicky Pink - On Friday, June 19, 2015, Houston Style Magazine was on hand in Galveston, TX at the historic Ashton Villa for the 36th Annual Al Edwards’ Juneteenth Program. This year’s celebration was extra special as it was the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth. Former State Representative Al Edwards, who has become known as the Father of Juneteenth, was especially humbled by the celebration. Numerous dignitaries were in attendance to offer remarks including His Eminence Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston; The Right Reverend C. Andrew Doyle, Episcopal Bishop of Texas; Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee; Congressman Randy Weber; Senator John Cornyn; Texas Legislative Black Caucus Chairman, State Representative Sylvester Turner; State Senator Larry Taylor; State Rep. Wayne Faircloth; Councilman Tarris Woods; and local community and religious leaders.
