Photography by Vicky Pink - On Friday, May 1, 2015, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at the Hilton University of Houston for the 2015 University of Houston African American Studies Scholarship Banquet. Annually current University of Houston students are awarded scholarships and UH alumni who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, community service and commitment to student success are honored. The Alumni Honorees for the 2015 were former NFL player Standford Routt, Church Without Walls Minister Sheretta West, actress and producer Charnele Brown, Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church Senior Pastor Marcus D. Cosby, and Texas Black Expo founder Jerome Love. Harry E. Johnson, President and CEO of the Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc. was the keynote speaker. Others in attendance were Dr. Elwyn Lee, Mary Lias, Roger Boykin, State Rep. Sylvester Turner, the Honorable Jarvis Hollingsworth, and Rev. Alexander Johnson.
