Photography by Vicky Pink - On Thursday, September 3, 2015, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s office as Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee presented a certificate of Congressional Recognition to Samina Dunbar. Congresswoman Lee recognized Dunbar for educational excellence and achievements. Dunbar is a Hurricane Katrina survivor that has actively volunteered with Congresswoman Lee’s annual Toys for the Kids event since she was 8 years old. After relocating to Houston with her family, Dunbar has thrived despite the deaths of her father and brother. Dunbar became the first student for her high school, Cristo Rey Jesuit, to earn an Ivy League acceptance. She was accepted into nine schools but ultimately chose to attend Stanford University.
