Photography by Vicky Pink - It was a joyous occasion at Blackshear Elementary School as they celebrated their 100th anniversary. Alumni, friends and supporters gathered to remember the history of the school, celebrate its alumni and those who continue to educate today’s youth. Entertainment was provided by several of Blackshear faculty members showing off their vocal and instrumental talent. Dr. Elwyn Lee was the keynote and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee presented a proclamation. Parents attended the gala free of charge thanks to the University of Houston Board of Visitors’ Chair and UH Third Ward Task Force Chair. Some in attendance were Myisha Tate, Yaneka Walker, Alicia Lewis, Dr. Robert McGee, Brandalyn Hare, Floradine Hinga, Jolanda Jones, Letty Gonzalez, Edward L. Blackshear, Flossie Norman, Clifford Lee, Meghann Castro, Jenifer Jones, Qiana Rankins, Tamaria Newton, Jennifer Hudson, Bennie Thomas III, Carlan White, Rhonda Eaglin, and Abdurraoof Abdullah.
