Photography by Vicky Pink - Not ever to be one to take a backseat to the issues, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee pushed the envelope to approach the topic of gun violence by hosting a Gun Violence Prevention Summit. The needed forum was to highlight the importance of common sense responsible gun violence prevention laws in our country. Gathering a panel of experts with community leaders discussions were held to come up with solutions to the growing problem of gun violence. Some in attendance were HISD Trustee Wanda Adams, Senator Rodney Ellis, Interfaith Ministries President & CEO Martin Cominsky, Mom’s Demand Action spokesperson Alexandra Chase, Bishop James Dixon, HPD Chief Mattie Provost, HFD Kenyatta Parker, Dr. Janice Beal, Constable Alan Rosen, Houston Women’s Center President & CEO Rebecca White, PVAMU’s Dr. Derek Wilson, St. Joseph Hospital’s Dr. Leon Etter, HCC Trustee Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, Village of Mothers founder Calandrian Kemp, Clinical Director Lisa Levine, Baylor’s Dr. Cedric Dark, GLBT’s Fransheneka Watson, and S.H.O.U.T. Pastor Edward Buford.
