Photography by Vicky Pink - The University of Houston African American Studies Program once again awarded several cougars scholarships at their annual scholarship banquet. In addition to awarding students, distinguished alumni, Pastor Suzette Caldwell, Jeramaine Netherly, and Judson Robinson III, were recognized for having demonstrated exceptional leadership, community service and commitment to student success. This success of this program has allowed several UH students to look forward to studying abroad in Ghana this summer. Mayor Sylvester Turner brought words of wisdom as keynote speaker. Khambrel Marshall served as emcee. Some in attendance were Dr. Malachi Crawford, Dr. Antonio Tillis, Rev. Jacques Denkins, Serwaa S. Omowale, Dormese A. Senegal, Tanja Simmons, Chika Okolo, Saurav Sharma, Kbreaun Wakins, Dr. Drew Brown, Dr. Brittany Slatton, and Dr. James Conyers, Jr., program director.
