Photography by Vicky Pink - Herod and Harvard elementary schools ‘ students participated in the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s (AHA/ASA) youth Stroke Awareness pilot program just in time for Stroke Awareness Month. Hundreds of Houston Independent School District students learned the connection between heart health and brain health through a one-of-a-kind interactive experience thanks to AHA/ASA, Medtronic, MEGA Brain™ presented by Medical Inflatable Exhibits, Inc. and the Health Museum. Making the connection between a healthy heart and a healthy brain is important, and arming students with the knowledge of how to prevent heart disease and stroke, along with how to spot the signs and symptoms of a stroke, can be lifesaving. The AHA/ASA’s Together to End Stroke™ initiative, sponsored nationally by Medtronic, teaches the acronym F.A.S.T. to help people to recognize the most common stroke warning signs and what to do if one occurs.
