Photography by Vicky Pink - City Councilwoman Amanda K. Edwards is proud to help Houston area children still in the recovery process of the damaging Hurricane Harvey. The City of Houston is sponsoring a writing program just for them called Project HOW: The Harvey Outreach Writing Project. Students learn how to process, synthesize and address Hurricane Harvey-related adversity, as well as demonstrate how writing can be used to impact the greater community by amplifying the voices of the unheard. Councilwoman Edwards was able to share her knowledge with the young minds. The students were also exposed to various genres of writing including: letters to first responders, personal statements, poetry and op-ed pieces. The program is part of the 2018 Community Empowerment Signature Series.
