Photography by Earl Hudnall - Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law welcomed the distinguished Congresswoman Maxine Waters as its 2018 Hooding Ceremony keynote speaker. With 40 years of public service to her credit and considered one of the most esteemed women in American politics, Congresswoman Waters has managed to capture the hearts of millennials—many of whom have adopted her as their “Auntie Maxine” for her authenticity, no-nonsense truth-telling, and for being a fierce champion for justice, equality and economic development for the diverse and dynamic communities she represents across California’s 43rd District. The hooding ceremony has become an honored tradition as a special pre-commencement recognition of each law graduate's anticipation of formally receiving the Juris Doctorate degree. At this formal ceremony, the highest academic achievers from the 2018 TMSL graduating class will also be recognized.
