Photography by Vicky Pink - For the first time Houston hosted the annual African American Mayors Association Conference that brings together African American mayors from across the nation to discuss topics that will be beneficial to their citizens. Mayor Sylvester Turner served as the 2019 conference chairman. He helped shaped common public policies that impact the vitality and sustainability of small and large cities. AAMA provides its member mayors and business council members with the leadership, management tools, and the forum to share best practices related to municipal management. Valerie Jarrett, former President Barack Obama’s advisor, was a special guest. Walmart awarded $5,000 to the Bread of Life. Some in attendance were AAMA’s Board of Trustees President, Mayor Oliver Gilbert; Carlecia D. Wright; Cindy Clifford; James Nash; Stella Nash; Francis Page Jr.; Argentina James; and Rebecca Briscoe.
