Fifth Ward Civic Club Awards Program
Photography by Vicky Pink World renowned legend Dr. Thomas Freeman was honored for his body of work by the Fifth Ward Neighborhood Civic Club with a lifetime achievement award. The Texas Southern University professor came to the historically black university in 1994 to fulfill a nine month contract and is still going strong 70 years later. Helping generations of young debaters find their voice, Freeman’s list of those he has influenced reads like the cast of some Hollywood blockbuster. Some paying tribute to Freeman included Ernestine Lloyd, Pastor James Glynn, Ann Tillis, Hon. Harold Dutton, Bariqui Nitwa, Cheryl Cooper, Ben White, and Pastor William Jordan.
