Houston, TX – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations issued the following statement denouncing the Trump Administration’s use of groundless claims of massive voter fraud to force states to hand over the personal data of voters:
“Despite all evidence to the contrary, the Trump Administration has aggressively promoted the myth that massive voter fraud occurred in the 2016 Presidential election. Trump used these bogus claims to justify his formation of the Advisory Commission on Voter Integrity, which has sought to force states to turn over sensitive identifying information of voters.
“I absolutely oppose these efforts which do not seek to expose voter fraud, but instead seek to intimidate and spy upon Americans who exercised their Constitutional right to vote. I especially find it highly objectionable that Greg Abbott, the Governor of the great state of Texas, has chosen to comply with this badly disguised attempt to disenfranchise law-abiding citizens and undermine our electoral democracy.”
