Make Sure Dad is “Looking Sharp” on Father’s Day
Style Magazine Newswire | 6/5/2017, 11:12 a.m.
Ties, tools, and eye exams. Every Father’s Day, Dad looks forward to his 100th back-up screwdriver. Kinda. Or another hand-painted tie to add to his collection in the back of the closet.
Sort of.
Another way to show you care.
But this year, give him a surprise. Take the time to make sure Dad is happy, healthy, and “looking sharp.” Go with him to get a haircut, let him win a game of hoops, and take him to get a comprehensive dilated eye exam.
A comprehensive dilated eye exam can help detect eye diseases like glaucoma early, before vision loss has occurred.
Is your Dad at high risk?
African Americans are at higher risk of developing glaucoma. It has no early warning signs and is one of the leading causes of blindness among African Americans. Almost 3 million people over the age of 40 have glaucoma, and half don’t know it. If Dad has a family history of glaucoma, he is at an even greater risk. However, with early detection and treatment, you can help him protect his sight.
So, be sure Dad can appreciate that tie you gave him for years to come; help him talk with his eye care professional about glaucoma. And next Father’s Day, what about those golf clubs he’s been admiring?
