Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, released the following statement on the one year anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub Mass shooting that claimed the lives of 49 men and women in Orlando:

“Today marks the one year anniversary of the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. The massacre at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando claimed the lives of 49 men and women who were simply dancing and celebrating during Pride Month. While we pray for the families left devastated by this vicious attack and for the victims who are still recovering from their injuries, we must also accept some responsibility for failing to enact common-sense gun control.

“Congress must act now to stem the tide of the gun violence that is tearing apart families and communities across America. Too many lives have been lost for us to continue to sit back and do nothing. The people we are elected to represent deserve better.”
