HOUSTON - Texas Southern is dancing and dreaming of making history.

The Tigers are headed to the NCAA Tournament where they’ll look to be the first 16 seed to knock off a No. 1 seed.

When Mike David took over as head coach of TSU in 2012, the program was in a bad place. But in five years, he’s completely changed the culture, as for the third time in the last four years, the Tigers are dancing.

The players went through a tough workout on Monday despite being the best in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Coach Davis isn’t holding back when teaching his guys about the task at hand. It’s the seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament for the head coach who guided Indiana to the Final Four back in 2002.

On Sunday, Coach Davis was rather muted in his celebration when he found out the team was in because he knew North Carolina was up next.

"Last night, I didn't go to sleep," Coach Davis said. "I mean, I went to sleep, I left the North Carolina game on my television. It played all night long, so I could hear it while I was sleeping. My subconscious mind was hearing Justin Jackson and (Kennedy) Meeks and all those guys' names as I slept. I'm trying to focus on them, and we have until Friday to get them down, and I've never done that before."

The Tigers will tip off against the Tar Heels at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Right now, TSU’s odds of winning the tournament are at 500-1.
