Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, released the following statement about reports hotels on FEMA’s list are turning away Hurricane Harvey victims:
“Throughout my district, I have met with seniors and other Hurricane Harvey victims who have been turned away from hotels that have agreed to participate in FEMA’s emergency housing assistance program. To those establishments, my message is simple. They need to open their doors and allow people with FEMA registration numbers to have rooms.
“During this time of immense challenge, we must remember that we are all Houstonians. No one in need should be denied a place of refuge.”
