Houston, TX – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Homeland Security and Judiciary, and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations issued the following statement about the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico.
“At this moment our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico are without power, food water, medicine and other necessities a week after Hurricane Maria decimated the island. So far, the storm has claimed at least 10 lives, severely damaged or destroyed a number of structures and left over one million people are without electricity, potable water, or internet access.
“To all of those whose lives have been impacted, I offer my deepest condolences and prayers. While other Americans in Texas and Florida rebuild from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, we must also help our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico, who are reeling from the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria.”
