Nissan has made a name for itself over the past eight years as the first car company to mass-produce pure electric vehicles. And now Nissan will be the first Japanese carmaker to enter Formula E, the FIA-sanctioned, fully electric racing series, which started in 2014. It will compete against teams sporting powertrains developed by Jaguar, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Andretti and Penske. Revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, Nissan will take alliance partner Renault’s place on the grid at the end of the season. As Nissan unveiled its new 2018-2019 season race car liveried in an eye-catching "Doppler-effect" paint job, global motorsport director Michael Carcamo said that “entering Formula E gives Nissan access to a much younger fanbase than Formula 1.”
