Childish Gambino’s ‘This Is America’

Since its release, Childish Gambino has received much praise for the artistic look at America pulling from the Black experience. Conversations have sparked again over the issues of gun violence, police brutality, and how people are distracted from the real issues that affect the state of America. One such comedian decided to ride on the fame of actor Donald Glover musical alter ego by making a version of her own highlighting issues facing women in America calling it the “women’s edit.” Unlike Glover who received accolades for his work, the YouTube comedian is receiving outrage. The comedian has said the video was done to add “truth from another perspective.” This is not the first time the comedian has created a video that brought controversy. She was accused of fat-shaming for her “Dear Fat People” video.
