It seems Dr. Grenita Lathan will stay on as Houston ISD interim superintendent after all. Last week, the board of trustees made a shocking move to release Dr. Grenita Lathan of her duties as the district’s interim superintendent that she has held since April of this year. The decision, which was rumored to be racially motivated, caused a storm of controversy especially since Lathan was to be replaced with former Houston ISD head Abe Saveedra. Days later Saveedra withdrew his name to fill the post. A week to the date of her removal, the board will convene again to vote on whether to reinstate Lathan as the interim superintendent. If the vote passes, Lathan will remain in the role until a permanent superintendent is named. Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates will conduct a nationwide search for a permanent superintendent. Dr. Lathan is eligible to apply for the role.
