The Houston Bar Association (HBA) is collaborating with Houston Volunteer Lawyers; Houston Lawyer Referral Service; Dispute Resolution Center; Lone Star Legal Aid; South Texas College of Law Houston; Thurgood Marshall School of Law Earl Carl Institute for Legal and Social Policy, Inc; and University of Houston Law Center to respond to the Houston evictions crisis. Greater Houston Area residents needing legal assistance regarding an eviction are invited to visit HBA.org/Evictions for information on free legal representation for low-in- come persons, a self-representation tool kit, mediation, lawyer referrals and more.

It is important for those who received a Notice to Vacate or a Citation to be removed from a home or evicted to act as quickly as possible.

To apply for free legal assistance through Houston Volunteer Lawyers (HVL), use this online intake or call HVL at (713) 228-0735:

Applicants should be prepared to give information about their case to the fullest, including an eviction case

number, if available. All applicants will be required

to provide identification and proof of income. Certain exceptions to residence and income requirements may apply to special groups such as veterans—visit the How to Get Help page at www.MakeJusticeHappen.org to learn more.

A legal caseworker will notify each applicant if other documents are required.

If an application is accepted, HVL will try to place the case with a volunteer attorney.

Translators and other accommodation requests can be made by call- ing (713) 228-0735 or emailing info@ hvlp.org.
