The Houston Astros got a much-needed win on Tuesday night defeating the Colorado Rockies 5-0 at home to end the Rockies winning streak at four-games. They picked up their 6th shutout win of the season and remained two games ahead of the Oakland A’s in the A.L. West. Houston improved to 67-46 on the year behind a strong pitching performance by starter Jake Odorizzi who didn’t allow a run in five innings.

“He seemed more relaxed today and he was throwing it,” said Astros manager Dusty Baker. “He was finding his spots, and just like when I switched [catcher Jason] Castro and [pitcher Luis] Garcia, sometimes a change of scenery is good for moment.”

After a horrendous four-game home series against the Minnesota Twins where the Astros lost three of those games, Houston was able to find some life at the plate with first-baseman Taylor Jones and center fielder Chas McCormick leading the charge.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, McCormick stepped into the box and hit an RBI single that drove in Aledmys Diaz to get Houston on the board against Colorado Rockies starter John Gray who had struck out seven batters in the first three innings. Taylor Jones followed McCormick with a two-run RBI double to increase the Astros lead to 3-0 and that would eventually lead to Gray being pulled from the game.

"Those at bats were timely," said Baker. "They were premium at bats. You get those two-out RBI hits, you are going to win most nights. The bottom of the order came through for us."

Houston would add two more runs provided by Michael Brantley, who ranks first in batting average in the MLB with a .329 average and José Altuve to give the Astros all the runs they would need to secure the victory.

The Astros will take on the Rockies on Tuesday in a mid-day game to end the six-game home stand.
